Description of the institute
The Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) belongs to the "Ministerio
de Sanidad y Consumo" (Ministry of Health and Consumer
Affairs). It provides service and research in Public Health
to the Ministry of Health and to the Autonomous Communities
of Spain.
The Institute is located in Madrid, in two campus: Chamartin
and Majadahonda. Among other centres, they host:

The National Centre of Epidemiology (CNE) has three main
departments:
- Área de Epidemiología Aplicada (Applied Epidemiology
Department), dedicated to research on neuro-epidemiology,
hosting the National Registry of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease,
and cardiovascular diseases epidemiology.
- Área de Epidemiología Ambiental y Cáncer (Environmental
Epidemiology and Cancer Department)
- Área de Vigilancia de la Salud Pública (Public Health
Surveillance Department), including the Epidemiological
Surveillance Service that coordinates the National
Surveillance Network: Mandatory notification of diseases,
Microbiological Information System, National Registry of
AIDS, etc.
Hosted
in the CNE, the "Programa de Epidemiología Aplicada de
Campo", PEAC (Spanish Field Epidemiology Training Programme)
started in 1994 after an agreement between the ISCIII and the
US´CDC and operates thanks to the collaboration of the National
School of Public Health, the Ministry of Health and the
Autonomous Communities.
Training
