Apply to the fellowship programme

Description

The European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) is a fellowship programme, which provides training and practical experience in intervention epidemiology at the national and regional centres for surveillance and control of communicable diseases in the European Union (EU). The programme is aimed at EU medical practitioners, public-health nurses, microbiologists, veterinarians and other health professionals with previous experience in public health and a keen interest in epidemiology. The programme is integrated at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control as of November 2007.

The EPIET fellowships last two years. Up to ten percent of the time is taken up by formal training courses and the remainder by a placement at a training site in a European country different from the fellow's country of origin.

Selection Process

All applications are received at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, in Stockholm, Sweden.  View Advert For applications to be valid, you must submit by email You will be requested at a later stage to supply documentary evidence in original in support of the statements that you make for this application. As an applicant you are to be informed that in a later part of the recruitment process a mandatory medical analyses and physical check-up is done with selected medical service.

A joint ECDC/EPIET selection committee forwards all applications to the applicants' respective countries of origin in the EU or Norway. Using standardised criteria each country advices the panel about candidates and returns a final ranking of its national candidates to the joint ECDC/EPIET selection committee which selects the candidates for the next recruiting step.

All selected candidates receive a list of host fellowship training sites and are asked to express their choice of training site. The training sites then receive a list of applicants who wish to be placed with them and the applicants' curricula vitae.

Face to face interview with selected candidates and training sites supervisors is then organised in Stockholm. All selected candidates are interviewed by the joint ECDC/EPIET selection committee. Finally, the joint ECDC/EPIET selection committee consults the members of the EPIET executive board and the training programme coordinators, before making a final list of candidates for each training site. The process aims at achieving the optimal spread of involvement among participating countries.  Read more about the selection process.

The successful applicants will be required to take up their fellowship on 16 September 2008 when the programme starts. No later starting date is foreseen.
